Magee Community Civil Rights Improvement Event

Dearest Green Party of MS Friends,
Below is a FWD Media Release for a Magee Community Civil Rights Improvement Event.

After living here in Magee for 4 & 1/2 years, and being "intimate" with the "Black/Persons of Color", lynn and i felt DRIVEN to do this!!! Also, seeing how Magee Businesses treat Persons of Color, and exclude them from Positions of "upper levels", but let them work in the outside un-air condition loading docks at the Hardware Store or the Farm Co-op, and in Municipal Government as well as the Local Newspaper, there is Disparity in Employment and "Higher Level Positions"!!!

(and in the Simpson County Jail & Mississippi Penitentiaries; http://www.sentencingproject.org/template/page.cfm?id=122)

Also see about Disparity in Income!!!::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

lynn and i believe in One Huaman Family and "the Golden Rule" to be applied regardless of "Color/Race" and valuing Our Fellow Human Being/Brothers/Sisters!!!

GRASSROOTS DEMOCRACY~Every human being deserves a say in the decisions that affect their lives and not be subject to the will of another. Therefore, we will work to increase public participation at every level of government and to ensure that our public representatives are fully accountable to the people who elect them. We will also work to create new types of political organizations which expand the process of participatory democracy by directly including citizens in the decision-making process.
SOCIAL JUSTICE AND EQUAL OPPORTUNITY~All persons should have the rights and opportunity to benefit equally from the resources afforded us by society and the environment. We must consciously confront in ourselves, our organizations, and society at large, barriers such as racism and class oppression, sexism and homophobia, ageism and disability, which act to deny fair treatment and equal justice under the law.

RESPECT FOR DIVERSITY~We believe it is important to value cultural, ethnic, racial, sexual, religious and spiritual diversity, and to promote the development of respectful relationships across these lines.
We believe that the many diverse elements of society should be reflected in our organizations and decision-making bodies, and we support the leadership of people who have been traditionally closed out of leadership roles. We acknowledge and encourage respect for other life forms than our own and the preservation of biodiversity.

Affirmative Action Event ~~~ (PEACEFUL “Freedom of Speech” Assembly in a “Public Forum”)

Title: “Is there Racial Equality in Magee?”
Wednesday, August 5, 2009 Main Avenue, Downtown Magee, 9 AM to 1 PM. Purpose: Promote Racial Equality in Magee City Business, Magee City Government including Management, Mid-management and Supervisors, and the Magee Courier, Our Magee Local Newspaper. Racial Equality is lacking in ALL these!

For Example, in Businesses, Ace Hardware, the Magee Co-op, and Windham’s (“Zip’s) Restaurant there are no African Americans working in Management or Sales or Waitresses at the Restaurant, but ONLY on the Loading docks or the Kitchen! Another Example is City Government, where there are no Persons of African America Heritage in Management Positions and only one Black Alderman, Patrick Brown of Ward 4. If you include the Mayor, who is “White”, along with the 5 Aldermen, then the Percentages are 83% White and 17% Black. The Population of Magee is 34% Black and only 62% White (17% is ½ of 34%!!!). There is Racial Disparity throughout the City of Magee, as in the Local Newspaper that has 0% African American Paid Writers, Editors, Managers or Sales Persons (with 1 “Contributing” Black Column). LINK> http://www.mageecourier-countynews.com/our_newspaper/about_us/ The upper levels of Magee City Government and many of Magee Businesses are similar.

Therefore, We will be bring attention to this “Disparity” in an Affirmative Action Promotion Event, by walking up and down Main Avenue, this next Wednesday from 9 AM to 1 PM with signs QUESTIONING whether the City of Magee has “Racial Equality”.

Sponsored by Magee Citizens Lynn and William McLean and ALL are WELCOMED TO JOIN US IN THIS ACTION TO IMPROVE THE COMMUNITY OF MAGEE!
PS We will only be on the sidewalks of Main Ave and not in the Road, except, perhaps to cross only at crosswalks, and NOT interfere with the movement of any other Pedestrians. We will avoid “conflict”, and if confronted by anyone calling Us names or trying to incite conflict, We will CALMLY say they have a Right to their “Opinion” and WALK AWAY coolly.

Sign that lynn and i will be Carrying Tomorrow~ 9 AM to 1 PM below!
